In June 2023, the prototype of BRing extraction kicker was jointly commissioned with magnet and vacuum systems, achieving full-power long-term operation with a flat-top current of 5000A, a rise time of 500ns, a flat-top width of more than 1000ns, a flat-top uniformity of ≤±1%, and a repetition rate of 3Hz. The prototype passed the acceptance tests and reached international advanced levels in comprehensive technical indicators.
The BRing extraction kicker is one of the key equipment of HIAF, which is mainly composed of magnet, power supply and vacuum systems. The main function is to generate a hundred-second rising rate current from a fast pulse kicker power source, and a fast pulse magnetic field is formed in the kicker magnet to deflect the beam instantaneously, leading the beam to a high-energy beam line, and the magnet is placed in a large aperture ultra-high vacuum chamber.
After years of research and development, the team has successfully broke through the three-coaxial wall penetrator with large size, high voltage and extremely low vacuum leakage rate, developed the ferrite core with large aperture, high saturation and low resistivity, and overcome the reliability problem of three-coaxial high-voltage cable under high voltage, high current and high repetition frequency operation. It lays the technical foundation for HIAF to realize the high repetition frequency and fast extraction mode.
