On 27th May, the first set of full energy storage fast pulse dipole magnet power supply for the BRing of the High Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF), a major national scientific and technological infrastructure, was successfully installed and jointly commissioned in Huizhou. We have achieved the stable operation of the maximum current of 3900A, the maximum current rise rate of 38000A/s, and the repetition frequency of 3Hz, and the core indexes have reached the design requirements.

The dipole magnet power supply of BRing is one of the key equipment for HIAF to achieve beam acceleration, and its special non-resonant fast-cycle pulse working mode will generate huge energy throughput in the rising and falling sections of the pulsed current. It will cause a enormous impact on the power grid, and put forward unprecedented challenges to the design of the power supply system. To solve the problem, the team creatively proposed a non-resonant variable pre-excitation full energy storage power supply topology. After four and a half years of intellectual research, we made breakthroughs in four core technical challengeand successfully solved the problems of the high-precision output index requirements under a strong grid fluctuation and wide voltage range of high-power fast-pulse power supply and so on. When it comes to the mass production, we iteratively optimize the manufacturing process, achieving the modular, integrated, and standardized design of power supply, significantly improving the reliability, maintainability, and electromagnetic compatibility of the power supply, which has laid a solid foundation for the efficient commissioning of power supply.

With the co-operation of multiple system personnel on-site, the first set of BRing dipole magnet power supply was successfully put into operation in Huizhou within 2 days. The successful commissioning of the power supply has accumulated valuable experience for the subsequent equipment installation and commissioning of  HIAF.
